About Island Judo Club

Island Judo Club was founded in 2003 and has since been affiliated with the Singapore Judo Federation (SJF).

Run as a non-profit organization by a team of enthusiastic volunteers, the aim of the club is to promote the values and virtues of judo, namely: Courage, Respect, Modesty, Friendship, Honour, Honesty, Self-control, Courtesy and Discipline.

The Judo response is to give way, to not meet force head-on. However this is for the purpose of defensively beating the oppressor. When the appropriate Judo-based action takes place it may not appear to be gentle. The action is a result of what happened, how it happened, and what the future implications will be.

As such it has great educational aspects that teach kids how to play without hurting each other, it helps to build confidence by teaching self defensive skills and it’s a great overall full body workout covering strength, cardio, speed and technique training that can match any other sport or fitness workout in terms of intensity.

Founding members of the club include Steven Loh and Yeo Chin Seng, who is currently the President of the Singapore Judo Federation.
